J. Dudley Benjafield M.D.

Dr. Benjafield, known as Benjy was a totally bald, tough, thick set man with a wry sense of humour and a Degree in medicine, specialising in bacteriology. He drove as one of the Bentley boys during Bentley’s heyday, establishing a reputation as a very reliable driver, and later on worked as a Harley Street consultant.

After the Bentley’s 1924 Le Mans victory he bought two cars from them, the first being fitted with a heavy saloon body, but the second was a red two seater with a nine foot chassis which Frank Clement had raced in 1923. He used this car to compete at Brooklands to such good effect that in 1925 he was invited to join the Bentley Le Mans team driving a 3 litre.

He went on to drive for Bentley at Le Mans in 1926, 1927, 1928 1nd 1929, also driving in the Brooklands Six Hour and Double Twelve Races.
